Follicular Phase
This phase begins right after menstruation and lasts between 7-10 days. The follicular phase relates to spring as it is a time to prepare, a time for new beginnings and a fresh start. All hormone levels are beginning to rise so focusing on fresh, vibrant and lighter foods will help to make you feel more energized during this phase. Your appetite is suppressed so it’s easier for your body to handle a reduction in calories. Eating plenty of veggies such as artichokes, carrots and a variety of lettuce will help to mimic the body’s natural estrogen. Lean proteins and oats are also great during this phase. Estrogen building foods include healthy fats, pomegranates, pumpkin and flax seeds and sprouted beans. The foods that are consumed at this time will set the stage for ovulation.
